About the postcard

A few weeks before the show I had some friends from St Joseph MO staying over for the weekend. I spread my paintings around my front room to show them, and just as I was about to clear them up Annie strolled into the center of the room and settled down.

Originally I was going to use a postcard with all twelve images, but I was having trouble getting that to work, and then I remembered the photo I had taken earlier. I especially like the way she is looking off to the side as if she could care less.

The Images

I had these three black and white photos I had taken of my cat Annie some years ago. I wanted my paintings to to be kind of abstract, but also to look like a cat so I took 6 croppings of each photo and chose those images to take my cat series of paintings from.

I first did a painting from an image from the first photo, then the second, and then the third, then back to the first. Below you can see which photo each of the paintings is from.

Originally there were going to be twelve paintings, but as the show went on, I added more.

I was going to include a little story about each of the cats which was based on a poem in a short story, Sredni vashtar, by Saki. It didn't work out but you can look at it here
